Do you feel like you've been to every boutique, tried all the gowns, searched all the socials and still your dress hasn't been found? If this is you, I suggest you have a quick read...
The Wild Card...
You may or may not have heard of this term? Here at The Ivory Lounge we ask our brides to try at least one 'wild card,' let me explain our reasons for this. Choosing a wedding dress is not something we do on a regular basis, its not like popping into town to grab an outfit for a Saturday night out! For many people this is a moment that's been thought about for a fair old time.
So, let me set the scene.... You've done your online research, shared some ideas with your bestie, sourced your choice of bridal shop and off you go. Choosing what dresses to try felt pretty easy, you've picked the ones like those on your Pinterest board. You are now half way through your chosen dresses and non of which are giving you the 'vibe.' You carry on, but still...nothing. Its ok, we'll try again somewhere else....again NOTHING!
Something we are all guilty of, especially with Social Media now a days, is seeing something on someone else and thinking it will look the same/similar on us. Often, this isn't the case. After taking into account different skin tones, different heights, different bust size, different everything, that dress is very unlikely going to look the same on ourselves.
So, sometimes going back to the drawing board is needed - and that's where our 'wild card' jumps into action. Choose something you would never choose, ask a friend you trust or even ask your bridal consultant to offer a surprise gown - you never know, it may just be 'the one.'
Is your wedding at a certain time of year? Do you have a specific theme?
Is your wedding venue significant to the 'feel' of the day?
If you feel like any of these thoughts are getting in the way of you finding that dream dress,
lets chat this out...
Of course your theme, location and time of year are important to the planning of your wedding. But let me tell you this, you will not look back at your wedding photos and think -
"That dress really did not go with the venue..."
What you will think -
"I wish I'd followed my heart and gone with my dream dress"
Try not to get too fixated on a style that limits your options for choosing your dress, only you know what dresses you didn't pick!
We know having your besties and special people with you can be so important when choosing your gown. Because of this we like to think we embrace guests coming along with our brides.
However - Its so important to remember a few things...
YOU are the one wearing the gown and only you know how it makes you feel. You can feel the fabric on your skin, your body being shaped in a way that makes you feel confident and the excited butterflies in your tummy.
If we were to ask each guest which dress is their favourite, the odds are likely they would all have a different choice - which opinion do you listen too? At the end of the day its only YOUR opinion that matters.
More and more we see weddings becoming a personalised day that's been created by the couple themselves, with a mix of traditions old and new. Be careful you don't get caught up in
'what you think you should do/wear'
and embrace
'what makes you feel good/makes you sparkle'
At The Ivory Lounge we pride ourselves in letting our brides lead the way,
only YOU truly know yourself and what makes you feel fabulous.
...We just tell you when your face sparkles!
Thanks for reading, take care
Emily
